of Building a Successful Online Business

The internet provides unlimited opportunities to go into business for yourself.

With hard work and dedication you can earn enough money to be self sufficient, work from home and be your own boss. It has never been easier than it is today to build to reap the benefits of an independent lifestyle that can balance you and your family’s income needs with a healthy lifestyle choice and life-work balance.

I’d like to go through some of the rewards and reasons why you should seriously consider setting-up an online business on the Internet. It is important to know why you are doing this .. if you are to stay the course and achieve the ultimate success online and rewards that go with it.

We will assume that of all the rewards (and there are many) your most important reward would be money. After all Money is Choice - Right?

Whether you give that money away to your favorite charity or cause is immaterial. Even if you set out to simply bring like minded people together to discuss Australian Frill Lizards or Cricket you might consider monetizing your site in order to help others, bring some of the joy and rewards you have given yourself and your like-minded internet friends to other less fortunate individuals. A noble cause indeed!

So let’s get one thing straight up-front … there is nothing wrong with making money honestly off your web site as long as you go about it the right way and do good things with it.

You will have some expenses, though these are far less than owning a ‘bricks and mortar’ business.

It makes sense to cover those costs and make a profit too, if nothing else this can be used to enhance the website for the benefit of all.

One thing for certain, is that done carefully, methodically (CTPM) and in a genuine and honest way you can make significant profit from a successful online business with a limited outlay.

The rewards both personal and financial make it well worth while.

One reward often overlooked is that you will gain a life skill and the freedom and independence to use it.

I can also guarantee you enjoyment, a feeling of personal achievement and a few frustrating moments too! You should consider these rewards they are truly life changing.

Back to the financial rewards - It is not hard to make $2-3000 per month from a mature online business (say more than 3 years old) and much more.

Think what an extra $30,000 could do for you or your favorite cause.

Now let’s dispel one myth right away… you couldn’t do it because ...

The reason the sentence above is not finished is because there are barely any good reasons why you cannot.

With patience, perseverance and a positive and properly positioned attitude anyone can create a successful online business using the internet.

The internet has advanced to such a stage just in the last few years, that virtually anyone between the ages of 8 and 80 with a dollar to invest in themselves everyday can achieve success online…. And have fun doing it too!.

By the way, when I say advanced, that doesn’t mean it requires advanced technical knowledge of computers to build an online business, quite the reverse common-sense, a willingness to learn and time is all that is required.

Technically it has never been simpler, the concepts you will need to understand to be successful are easily grasped. It is nothing to do with fancy graphics costing heaps - the search engines are blind to them!!

The great beauty of the Internet is that it is THE great leveler. YOU - yes YOU, can achieve as much success online as corporations or stores with $millions to spend. Hard to believe I know, but I have been intimately involved with million dollar sites for government and private corporations since the Internet began .... and small businesses can easily win the hearts and minds of their visitors and succeed where they struggle.

You can achieve a regular income and an appreciating asset, i.e., that is your online business grows in value too - just like a ‘bricks and mortar’ business.

Well actually there is MORE chance that you will receive a return from your appreciating asset - your online business, even if it is modest, than someone with a 'bricks and mortar' business.

You don’t need lots of money to start-up your business so the risks are very low.

You don’t need advanced technical skills either. Whilst every page you see on this site uses an esoteric language called HTML (HyperText Mark-Up Language) this can be written automatically!

Of course it can help to know a bit but that might simply be for example to make your text bold by surrounding your text with two bold tags one of these < and a b and one of these > will tell your browser … the frame that is showing this page to you to make (or mark-up) the word that follows using a bold font. To turn it off you add one of these /. It looks harder that it is, believe me. Result looks like this

So it’s a great investment of your time and effort in the best asset you have - YOU. What you do with the rewards is up to you, but the rewards all come to you.

With the smallest of financial outlays you can return many times that amount…. BUT like anything worth doing, you need to be motivated to do it.

One thing I can assure you is that even for a complete technophobe (you hate technology) it can become strangely addictive.

After all where else can you build a valuable monthly income and increasing capital asset whilst working in your pyjamas, sitting in your underwear, drinking your favorite tipple, listening to the birds singing or anywhere you can hook up a computer.

Think how much you could save by not commuting to the big city every day - the travel savings alone could finance your internet business! Perhaps you are retired or been made redundant building your online business in the comfort of your home will fill you with purpose, stop your brain atrophying, and even if you intend to go back to ‘regular’ 9-5 job, you will always have the business to fall back on and the extra income it provides.

Thinking of going to college? Of course you can always get a job waiting tables to help pay your expenses.

Alternatively, you could work when you choose to on your online business. The great thing about it is that your business will survive if you have to take time out to do that mid-term dissertation – will your job at the local café be as flexible?

Got kids? Want to stay at home to enjoy the most important and influential time in you and your child’s life, but need to do something ‘adult’ and earn some money too!

What better way than setting-up your own online business on the Internet. If you are planning on a family, start to put together your future means of independence so that you can be a work at home mom or dad - with all the freedom and independence that can provide.

By the time your child is old enough for college you will have the monthly income to finance them all the way through.

What if you have a small bricks and mortar business anyway?

By setting up an online business web site that provides informative information about your products such as how best to use them, hints and tips, etc., or the specialist services you offer along with some DIY help you can drive customers to your shop or business.

Whether these customers come from around your community (there are increasing opportunities to localize you online business - it doesn't have to be international) or from farther afield.

This you can do 24x7, 365 days a year.

Are you knowledgeable about a particular product and want to sell them.

Setting up an online business is far and away the least costly, has the most potential rewards and is the least risky of anything you might consider.

No long term leases on premises and no large inventories of products that go out of date. You can take rewards like that to the bank!

You can drop ship your goods for a very small percentage.

You don’t have to do anything more than provide valuable advice or honest recommendations about the products you know and let the drop shipper do the rest, store, package and distribute straight from store or manufacturer direct to the customer even with you branding!

Have a passion for making or mending things? – unique original arts and crafts, antiques; old pens, clocks or watches; your own info products, books or music, whatever you love to make or do you can sell to as wide a customer base as you care to.

Why wander around town trying to find an outlet for your goods and pay them a commission?

Want to tell people about something you are passionately for or against?

Perhaps you want to provide content about your favorite holiday destinations, your local town amenities, your local cricket team, pets, personalities, news issues, sports, poetry, etc.

Why not do so, use the interactive possibilities of the latest easy to use Web 2.0 technologies to build a following that will be responsive to advertisements that are in context and relate to your content.

This can be automatically set up to do that using advertising services such as Google Adsense for free bring in commission every time someone clicks on the advertisement, whether they buy or not.

Love Reading Promote books related to your content and earn a commission every time someone buys a book. Simply link your content to a bookstore like Amazon.com (already built for you) having set up a pre-arranged affiliate membership.

The possibilities are indeed limited only by your imagination. ...

Create a successful online business using the Internet and create the lifestyle and life/work balance you aspire to.

Forget get rich quick. Forget coming up with the next Google, Facebook or Amazon. Sure you might strike the next seam of Internet gold .. but that’s a bonus.

What we are talking about here is a genuine business that you can put your heart and soul into that with careful nurturing will provide you with a healthy low risk, income and a capital asset that will return your investment many times over. This works whether you are 9 or 90, in work or out of work, single or married, college educated or just scraped through high school.

Monetize through links to recommended suppliers of products (affiliate), place advertisements for which you get paid, e.g. Adsense which pays when clicked, local services, e.g. hotel which payst when someone stays), membership site (pays when joining), sale of selected products from a drop shipper, or the direct sale of your own unique products, e.g. arts and crafts, books, etc., using payment services like Paypal.
